WHY SHOULD COMPUTERS BE NETWORKED? A computer network can increase the overall profitability and efficiency of your business while decreasing your long term costs. Staff efficiency will improve by making the same data available to multiple users. To be competitive in today's market place you must be able to use the same tools as your competition. A computer network is just such a tool. The following diagram represents what a typical computer network might look like.
Some other reasons to consider networking are Data Sharing such as E-mail, Scheduling,Graphics, databases, Intranet etc.. Other benefits such as Resource Sharing of Printers Modems, Faxes, centralized data backups, Internet Access etc. will all help to lower your overall capital expenditures. WHY MBI? BECAUSE WE LISTEN! Well Linux is a Kernel, which includes the core operating system that handles networking and hardware management. It is a great alternative to Microsoft Windows or Apple's MacOS. Also, Linux can replace Windows on your desktop, or windows NT as your server. Linux is a robust modern operating system. It is designed to run on the latest 32-bit architecture, uses preemptive multitasking, protected memory, supports multiple processors, and has rich support for networking, including TCP/IP networking. Linux was originally written for Intel's 386 architecture, but now runs on a wide variety of hardware platforms, including the x86 family of processors (Intel, AMD etc.), as well as Alpha, SPARC, and PowerPC chips. Because Linux is similar to Unix it should run all the applications a Unix server system would, including web servers like Apache, mail serving software like Sendmail, and database servers like Oracle, Informix, or more open applications like MySQL and Postgres. Linux supports a wide range of file system types, and through programs like samba can even seamlessly replace NT as a Windows file server and yet at a much lower cost per user. Clustering technology has enabled Linux to scale up to handle the supercomputing loads required by many scientific/engineering applications, and required in high availability environments. LINUX APPLICATIONS! As more and more application programs are written for the Linux operating system you will be able use more features such as FAX servers, Accounting, Word Processing, spreadsheets, etc. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? You might ask, "How can this system be such a low cost?". Linux is distributed under the GNU General Public License, a "free" license giving anyone the right to modify its source code and redistribute it as they see fit. Because of this, Linux has with it a talented and friendly community of developers dedicated to the improvement of this software. Part of the GPL states that code must be given away for free or for a nominal fee to cover costs of media (i.e. Books & CD-ROM). Therefore, most (or all) free software is available to anyone on the Internet. To see how we can lower your cost of running a file server, give us a call or e-mail us for a free evaluation. IS LINUX COMPATIBLE WITH MICROSOFT WINDOWS? The short answer is 'YES'. Pretty much anything that an NT system can do a Linux can also do. We've successfully networked Microsoft Windows 3.11, 9x, NT, 2000 & XP clients & servers to Linux servers.
WE DO WINDOWS! As you can see in most cases Linux is a great option but if you still prefer the Microsoft Windows 9x, NT, 2000, 2003 XP, Vista systems, we have successfully installed each of these Microsoft products as well. The Windows 2003® Server family is a multipurpose network operating system for businesses of all sizes. The newest version of the Windows NT® server operating system, Windows 2003 Server lets you share files and printers reliably and securely across you entire network, choose from thousands of business applications compatible to run today and many other features that we would be happy to go over with you. This combination and flexibility delivers a strong business value proposition for today's IT customer. We also combine Linux, Apple, Microsoft Windows servers and desktop systems on the same network. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
